July Guitar Classes Please scroll down for class descriptions. For class schedules, pricing, and/or to enroll, click on "Classes" refers to group lessons. Private lessons (one on one) are also available. Below is a list of classes that we offer. However, not all of these classes are offered simultaneously. Please check our class schedule for current classes offered, their days and times. If you would like to take a class that you do not see on the schedule, please email us and tell us so. We will schedule classes with priority that are most requested. Beginner classes are geared toward those who have had no prior training. Proper technique is stressed while learning basic chords and strum patterns. By the end of a 14-week semester, students should have a good foundation with the ability to accompany themselves or another instrument or vocalist. NO note reading is required in Beginner One. However, students are introduced to the staff, G clef, time signatures, measures, beats, and chord symbols. Students learn through strumming songs together. Beginner Two finishes the study of basic chords and strums, continuing where Beginner One leaves off. More complex rhythms (strumming patterns) are introduced. In Teen and older classes, simple song analysis is studied for ease of memorization. Classes may be introduced to standard notation (note reading) if there is class interest and at the teacher's discretion. Intermediate Beginner Teens and older classes begin the study of the "Blues". Students are given a working knowledge of basic music/guitar theory for understanding of chord progressions and ease of playing. Blues and its relation to contemporary rock styles is explored using well-known classic rock songs. Intermediate Beginner Tweens and younger classes continue with strums and may begin or continue with note reading. Clapping and stomping exercises are used to teach rhythms, which allows for some moving around without a guitar. Youngsters find these exercises fun and challenging. Advanced Beginner Teen and Adult classes continue their Blues and Rock studies. More complex right hand techniques are introduced. Tablature, power chords, fingerpicking, and moving up the neck is explored. Scales for improvisation are introduced and solo studies are guided. Basic Rock 1: No experience is required to enroll in this class. In Basic Rock, the student dives right into crunchy rhythm guitar back-up licks. We cover power chords, bass runs, getting a good tone, and playing right away with a CD for expert time keeping. Exercises incorporate 12-bar rock progressions in standard and variated forms. This class requires at least 30 minutes per day of practice between classes. For a less demanding start, enroll in our Beginner One class first. This class is not recommended for those under 12 years of age. Basic Rock 2: This class continues where Basic Rock 1 leaves off. Rhythm guitar playing is strengthened and lead guitar is introduced. Solo and rhythm guitar studies are guided using well-known rock songs. Since each class is unique, topics covered may change at the teacher's discretion and according to the interests of the class. However, a good foundation and understanding at all levels is the main focus at all times. In the Child classes, the teacher will guide the students through a solid foundation in chords, strums, and (perhaps) standard note reading using well-known children's songs. Older classes may cover the use of a capo, tablature, standard notation, finger picking, and other topics of interest to the class. Music theory is introduced where appropriate at all levels for greater understanding. Back | |||||
